Helping Professional Women After Hurricane Harvey

On Behalf of | Dec 12, 2022 | Firm News

In 2017, Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 Hurricane, made landfall on Texas and Louisiana. The flooding in Houston was catastrophic, over 100 people died and hundreds of thousands of homes were flooded, many losing everything they owned. I knew I had to do something to help. After hearing about professional women, including lawyers, literally losing everything in their homes, I decided to ask for donations for professional clothing – business attire such as suits, shoes, purses – really anything needed for a woman to get back to work. Donations were received from bar associations across the nation, and, many generous local donations. I was blown away by the quality of the clothing and accessories we received and the many volunteers who helped organize the shop. Special women stepped up to make this project a success, including: Kandi Lukats and Joelle Archer at 3GiG LP, the ultimate fashionistas; Cookie Mangine and Vicky Norwood; and many members of the Association of Women Attorneys. We set up a boutique on an open floor in my office building and the Harvey shop was open for business. We scheduled appointments and had weekend shopping days, helping over a hundred of woman in the Houston area. I am very proud we were able to support professional women who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
